Planning Commission

The Halifax Township Planning Commission met on February 4, 2019 at 7:00 PM with all four commissioners present — Randy Paul, Chad Lebo, Dwight Hoffman, and Jake Gruver — along with Supervisor Chairman Kenneth Bechtel. The session focused on land development reviews and a preliminary discussion about adopting a township sign ordinance.

• Rex Nightwine subdivision recommended for approval (5-0): The commission recommended approval of the Nightwine subdivision plan, contingent on township engineer Tom Wilson's February 1, 2019 review comments and the addition of Notes 5 and 6 from Section C of Wilson's memo onto the plan.
• Farhat accessory structure granted land development exemption (5-0): After reviewing SALDO requirements, the commission recommended to the Board of Supervisors that a land development exemption applies to the Farhat accessory structure, finding it similar in use to existing buildings on the property.
• Ty and Lana Shoop side yard addition accepted for review (5-0): Plans for a side yard addition were formally accepted into the commission's review process.
• Sign ordinance discussion begun: The commission discussed the possibility of adopting a sign ordinance for the township. No action was taken; commissioners will research other municipalities' ordinances and bring proposals to future meetings.
• Armstrong Valley Winery traffic concern raised: Chairman Kenneth Bechtel flagged a safety issue with the winery's parking area on Hershey Road, which has four separate driveways within a short distance. Commissioner Jake Gruver agreed to develop a plan to consolidate access to a single point of ingress and egress.
