Planning Commission

The Halifax Township Planning Commission met on April 7, 2014, with members Dwight Hoffman, Fred Ford, and Flo Mallonee present. Solicitor Bruce Warshawsky and Engineer Tom Wilson also attended; Randy Paul was absent due to another meeting but arrived briefly at adjournment. The commission reviewed four land development and subdivision matters, with the Halifax Middle-High School plan drawing the most discussion due to multiple unresolved requirements.

• Halifax Middle-High School land development plan — After extensive discussion, the commission determined it could not recommend approval due to outstanding issues including unresolved engineer review comments, insufficient waiver explanations, a missing Dauphin County approval letter, and a required NPDES permit. The commission instead unanimously recommended a 90-day time extension (3-0).
• Nancy A. Reed subdivision — Tabled unanimously (3-0) for one month at the request of the applicant's engineer, Tony Trost, who needed time to respond to Engineer Tom Wilson's review comments.
• Lake Tobias Wildlife Park safari bus loading area — Commission unanimously recommended (3-0) providing information to support waivers of the preliminary plan and stormwater requirements, along with an easement agreement.
• Sheetz final land development plan — Commission unanimously recommended (3-0) approval of landscaping modifications to the existing plan.
• Public comment — A resident asked about the process for a simple single-family home subdivision. Flo Mallonee advised reviewing the township's Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance (SALDO) before submitting a plan.
